Cibona play away to Strasbourg’s SIG tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 November, in Round 3 of Group B of the Champions League. Tip-off is at 20:00.

The Wolves head to the game with fresh confidence. On Saturday they beat Split 93-81 after overtime in Split to reach their sixth win in six games in the SuperSport Premier League, and Ivan Tomas picked up his first win on the Cibona bench. After two rounds Cibona’s record in Group B of the Champions League is 1-1, having beaten Galatasaray 96-76 in the first round.

Strasbourg are also 1-1 after two rounds. The French club opened its Champions League campaign with a convincing win over Legia Warszawa (100-62), and lost away to Galatasaray in the second round. In the domestic league they have five wins in nine rounds, including wins in Saint-Quentin and against Cholet in their last two games. They are led by Maxence Lemoine, Ben Gregg and Jaylen Hands.

Cibona assistant coach Andrej Štimac spoke about the trip to Strasbourg:

“Strasbourg are in front of us, an extremely physical and athletic team that plays full-court basketball and goes into transition very quickly. On defense they stay full-court and apply pressure, and that physical, athletic side will be the first challenge we have to overcome. They have an evenly balanced team without one standout individual, but it’s exactly their speed and the number of possessions they play that make them extremely dangerous. They shut down every entry into the offense as much as possible, make transition and ball movement difficult, and that’s where we have to be right. We played a pretty good game in Split, and I hope we can carry it on. However much we manage to stay ourselves and carry out our ideas, that’s how successful we’ll be; if we play their game, I think it will be very hard for us. I think Cibona are ready to adapt to that kind of game and respond with both fight and smarts, and I hope for a good result.”

Lovro Mazalin added:

“In this crazy rhythm we have an away game against Strasbourg in two days. Today we had a good recovery and have already started preparing for the game. I hope this latest win over Split will be a good tailwind and a boost for us to build a good story with the new coach. As for expectations for the next game, I want us to come in with the best possible energy and as aggressively as we can, to respond to their physical play and their defense. I hope we adapt as well as we can, and we’ll see how far that takes us.”Cibona visit Strasbourg tomorrow
