McGill new Cibona player

Rickey McGill was born on June 19, 1997, in the U.S. state of New York. Standing 188 centimeters tall, he spent four years playing for Iona University before beginning his professional career. With Iona, he won the MAAC conference championship four times and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In his final collegiate season, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the MAAC Tournament and selected to the All-MAAC First Team. He finished his college career with 1,434 points, 551 assists and 213 steals.

He began his professional career in 2019 with Greek club Panionios, after which he played for Plymouth Raiders, Rapla, Sopron, Franklin Bulls, Newcastle Eagles, Dziki Warszawa and Sheffield Sharks. In the 2023/24 season, as a Newcastle player, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the regular season in the European North Basketball League.

Last season, he led Patrioti Levice to the Slovak championship title and was recognized as both the league’s Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the Finals. In the Slovak league, he averaged 23.6 points, 5.9 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. In 12 Basketball Champions League appearances, he averaged 18.3 points, 5 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

McGill plays at the point guard position and is known for his ability to organize the offense, create plays in pick-and-roll situations and score in a variety of ways. He can take responsibility with the ball, create opportunities for his teammates and contribute defensively by putting pressure on opposing perimeter players. His international experience brings additional quality and depth to Cibona’s backcourt.

Rickey is a guard who can score, but he also has a good feel for the game and knows how to make the right pass at the right time”, said Cibona head coach Ivan Rudež.
